Bluray_logo755087_2Contrary to what Sony executives have been saying, Microsoft says it has no plans to add a Blu-ray drive on to the Xbox 360.

"Xbox is not currently in talks with Sony or the Blu-ray Association to integrate Blu-ray into the Xbox experience," Xbox group product manager Aaron Greenberg told Reuters today.

Last week, Sony Electronics US president Stan Glasgow said that the two rival game hardware makers were indeed discussing the possibility of Microsoft and Blu-ray. The same day,Steve Ballmer told reporters that Microsoft would "support Blu-ray in ways that make sense."

Greenberg's interview with Reuters comes one day before the release of the NPD game industry sales for the month of February. Once again, Microsoft has decided to get out in front of the news and do some damage control: Greenberg says that they expect that PlayStation 3 will outsell Xbox 360 this month, too.

In fact, he seems even to be saying that PS3 will outsell Xbox in March, too. What is up with this shortage? Maybe they saw how successful Nintendo was with the whole shortage thing and wanted to try it, too?
